Stereoscope Cards From
The Turn of the Century
Click here to be taken directly to a list of antique stereoscope 3-D viewers
and stereoscope cards for sale. Many are from the turn of the century and
some are even from the 1880s. Wow! |
Encounter
in the Third Dimension
(DVD)
Encounter early incarnations of the third dimension, from a recreation
of one of the earliest 3-D movies ever made to classic clips from Hollywood's
3-D heyday during the 1950s to modern creations such as James Cameron's
theme park attraction, Terminator 2: 3-D. NOTE: This requires shutter
glasses, not included. But you can get this DVD and the shutter glasses
in the "Ultimate DVD" collection at the top center of this page. |
Alien

Earth in hope of establishing a new home for their people. Little do they

Civil
War in Depth:
History
in 3-D
(Hard
Cover Book)
I highly recommend this book, which is part of my personal library. It's
120 pages of 3-D history and comes with its own 3-d viewer. This book is
so good that I plunked down money to get Volume II (to the right). |
Civil
War In Depth, Volume II
This series helped get me hooked on 3D. This book includes 130 3-D photos
from the Civil War. The New York Times called the book "a more than worthwhile
addition to the history bookshelf." Now how often does the New York Times
review a 3D book? The book comes with its own special glasses. |
The
Red & Blue Illusion Book:
How
to Create 3-D Drawings
and
Other Optical Tricks
Finally! I've been looking forever for a book like this. The idea
of printing two overlapping images in red and blue and then viewing them
through colored glasses is a very old one, but this book breaks new ground
in a very creative way. It provides a clear and precise explanation of
how to construct this type of illusion and there are special glasses to
make which illustrate the principles. There are suggestions on how red
and blue images can be used to produce original and amusing cards. |
Flash
Gordon Conquers the Universe (DVD, 1940)
A strange purple dust is killing off the population of Earth, leaving a

Virtual
Art: From
Illusion
to Immersion
Wired magazine gave this a great review. This book focuses on all sorts
of "immersive" environments, beginning with the frescoes covering the wall
of Pompeii in 60 BC to the hi-tech 3-D movies that exists today. Wired
magazine devoted nearly an entire page to this book. |

Radar
Men from the Moon
(DVD,
1952)
This 3-D movie contains Leonard Nimoy's first screen appearance. And according
to one reviewer, this movie had an influence on George Lucas and Steven
Spielberg. Wow, Spock appeared in a 3-D movie, and two of the greatest
movie directors of all time liked the movie. Suddenly, I don't feel so
nerdy anymore. |
