Note for:   Robert Bruce Wright,   ABT. 1846 - 17 JUN 1906          Index
Burial:
Place:   Wright Family Cemetery on Highway 626

Individual note:
According to "Civil War Soldiers from Brunswick County, Virginia:"

Robert served in Coleman's Artillery, but unfortunately no details are available concerning his Confederate Army service. In her pension application in 1926, his widow, Rosa, said he served in Co. D. Brunswick Reserves, which was Captain Britt's Company. In as much as the reserves were not organized until the latter part of 1864, Robert probably served in the artillery until discharged for some reason and came home and enlisted in the reserves.

Both marriages conducted by Rev. Nicholas Rawlings.

------------------------

As noted in the 1 September 1977 issue of the Brunswick Times-Gazette, a large group of descendants of Confederate soldier Robert Bruce Wright gathered at the home of Carleton Clary on Gaston Lake on Sunday, 21 August and formed a family organization.

R. Grady Moseley of Warrenton, North Carolina, a grandson of Robert Bruce Wright, acted as a master of ceremonies. Miss Edith Moseley of Brodnax registered the guests. Approximately 275 were present, coming from many locales in Virginia and North Carolina. Officers were elected for the family organization as follows: W. Page Wright of Brodnax was president; Mrs. Margaret (-) Baird of Valentines was vice president, Miss Sandra Wall of Brodnax became secretary, and Mrs. Hattie Ruth (-) Jones of Ebony served as treasurer.

No records have been found to indentify the younger Tabitha's husband -- if she had one. She owned land on Rattlesnake Creek and around Tabernacle Methodist Church.

----------

She had written a will dated 27 January 1863, which her son Samuel Wray presented in court at Lawrenceville 25 January 1864.

Burial:
     Place:   Astrop's Mill near Brodnax

Individual note:
According to "Civil War Soldiers from Brunswick County, Virginia:"

Allen is assumed to have been the man by that name, or a very similar name, who served in Capt. Branch J. Epes' Artillery Company from Dinwiddie County. Several men from Brunswick County, including his brother Charles, served with Capt. Epes. This man served through the war with Captain Epes and surrendered at Appomattox Court House 9 April 1865.
