According to some researchers, Jesse's wife's maiden name is unproven but
thought to be Coman or Conan.
As per mail sent to me by Regina Roper (descendant of Jesse's daughter,
Kezziah):
The thought that Lucy may have been a Coman (or other variations) comes
from the family bible of their daughter Sally who married John Foster...
and for about 3 generations there was a child Lucy with the name Lucy
Conan Foster etc...Conan ALWAYS following Lucy."
I believe that 'Coman' is the correct spelling in any case.
Although I respect the opinion of people that have researched the
Braswell line for many years, I doubt that is her name.
However, according to LDS records, and other researchers, the mother of
John Foster was Elizabeth Coman, which, to me, would explain the heavy
usage of the name (Coman). Also in the Foster line the name of Ransome is
very common, yet there are none in this Braswell line.
-
I noticed an unusual thing in that almost every child of Jesse and Lucy
was married around Christmas or a little later in January.

Note for: John Herod Foster, 24 APR 1773 - 28 SEP 1850 Index

Many sources list his middle name as Harwood, however I have faith in the
research of Ray Sasser, listed below giving the name as Herod.
Some sources: LDS and Nancy Foster.
On his father's death, as eldest son, he inherited the estate and
remained there until his
death. He was first married to Sela Lightfoot in 1795 and had one
daughter, Nancy Harwood, before marrying Sally Braswell.
-
From Ray Sasser: "John Foster's middle name was "Herod," and he seems to
have been known to family and friends simply by that name-"Herod"-and not
by the name John, though official documents usually use "John." There are
other people in Brunswick, not necessarily related to Braswells, with
middle names of "Herod." Why it was popular, I don't know. If the name
derives originally from a family named "Harwood," this would not surprise
me, but by the nineteenth century in Brunswick County, the given name was
always "Harod."
Another interesting name in Brunswick County that modern researchers like
to alter to fit modern ideas was the middle name of "Hutson"; people like
to change it to "Hudson." That name also pops up in the Braswell family
tree."

In 1847, John appointed his son William L Braswell "of Fayette Co., Tn"
to represent him in acquiring his rights from the estate of Elizabeth
James (John's mother-in-law and William's grandmother) in Rutherford Co.,
Tenn.

1870 Lawrence county, Arkansas census, p. 304, St. Rawberry township.
Ray Sasser says: William L Braswell is first found in Rutherford Co., Tn,
where his grandfather John Pease James and family settled. Later, William
is in Fayette Co., Tn, with his brother Jesse J Braswell.
1850 Shelby county, Tn, p 107, 6th district: Also listed in his house
are:
Winna James, (f), age 50 b. Va.
Alex Dunn, age 45 b. Pa.
Ancestry.com lists his name as Alexander. It only says Alex on the actual
census. There is a listing of marriage of an Alexander Dunn and Cathrine
(Catharine) Meadows, 17 Jan 1825 in Essex co, Va. and another to Nancy
Finney, 10 Feb 1824 Rocky Mount, Franklin co, Va. (another entry says she
was b. 1803, m. 1819, and d. 1819)

Petition made in Fayette county, Tenn and heard Sept. 18, 1895, against
Jacob Braswell by his heirs. I assume the year listed is in error.
Several reports spell his name as Brasswell. This is the only person in
the family line that I have found with a variation spelling. It seems he
reached west Tenn before 1842, and died before 1856. I suspect he is
buried in Seward Cemetery, Eads, Tenn. There is a Jacob on the 1850
census in Henry county, but I cannot find him or Elizabeth on any 1850
census yet.
