He is listed as a 'hand' on the 1840-1844 Fayette County, Tenn Court Minute Book B, 'Stage Road from LaGrange to L Kidd's'.
On 1850 Shelby Co., TN census. No record is found for him after that. There is no marker for him in Seward Cemetery in Eads, Tenn. His wife was in Ark by 1870

1870 census of Jackson and White county, Ark. both show Nancy. Reports say she was visiting her son John Dee Seward in that year, and was also counted on both census. Nancy had a prior marriage to Francis N B Dudley in Tennessee. On the Ark census she is listed as Nancy Dudley.

He bought additional land 20 Aug 1745 - Isle of Wight County 95a. Patents 22, page 429.
A lost deed summarized in Brunswick Co. Ct. Orders Bk. 16, p. 184, involves the sale of the lands of Benjamin Seward of Brunswick by Joseph Seward and Benjamin's other children. Benjamin's will, proved in 1766 (Bk. 3, p. 452), mentioned wife Charity and minor children not named.

Earlier Generations of Seward are sometimes spelled as Seaward.
Surry county, Virginia is just across the James River from Jamestown, Virginia.
First recorded purchase of land in Virginia, in Patent Book No. 5, p. 87, dated 29 Sep 1664, for land in Warrasquinoke [later became Isle of Wight] County.
He patented 300 acres in Surry Co., Va. in 1664. Census of Tithables Surry Co: 1688, 1694, 1698, 1702. Will proved May 1703 by his 2nd wife Ann. He named daughters Elizabeth Holt and Mary Burton. John Seward predeceased him in 1699.
The Sewards of Virginia were related to the Laniers and the Washingtons, with some connections with the Holts and the Caufields.

Some call him a Jr. Some list birth year as 1640. In 1679 he patented 1450 acres in Surry Co. Member of House of Burgesses 1656, and appointed Justice for Surry Co., 22 Dec 1668. 'Before' death date here is date will was 'proved'.
