Note for:   George H. Edmunds,   ABT. 1829 - MAY 1863          Index
According to "Civil War Soldiers from Brunswick County, Virginia:"

George enlisted in Coleman's Artillery 1 March 1862 when the company was organized. He served at Norfolk and at Drewry's Bluff on the James River. According to National Archives records, George suffered an injury to his spine from a log falling on him, which rendered him unfit for duty, and they discharged him 10 November 1862. They described his condition as "paraplegia," which is paralysis of the lower half of the body on both sides. Years later his widow stated in her pension application that he died the last of May 1863 of "disease contracted while in service," but his death likely was related to his accident while in service.

Confederate Army records describe George as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with light complexion, dark hair and dark eyes.
