Note for: James Harvey Wright, ABT. 1833 - 1862 Index
Occupation:
Date: 1850
Place: Farmer
Individual note:
From "Civil War Soldiers from Brunswick County, Virginia:"
When the Civil War came, James enlisted in the Brunswick Grays, the
company of soldiers from the southern part of Brunswick County that
became Co. G, 21st Virginia Infantry Regiment, and was assigned to
General "Stonewall" Jackson's Second Brigade in the Valley of Virginia.
General Jackson fought many battles in the Valley of Virginia and routed
the Federals at almost every turn. His losses were sometimes rather heavy
but he fought to win and usually did. One of the bloody battles was
fought at Winchester, Virginia, 22-23 March 1862. This battle has been
called the Battle of Kernston -- a battle between forces under General
Jackson and General Nathaniel P. Banks. Some have thought it to have been
a victory for Banks. In this battle on 23 March 1862, James Harvey Wright
from Brunswick County was reported missing in action and presumed to have
been killed.
