Mentioned On The 'Net

The following are some of the places where I've been quoted and interviewed for various stories and issues. The newest ones always are first:

  • The Battle of "Print-to-Web" Companies -- Editor and Publisher looks at how newspapers are placing their display ads online in searchable format. Many companies offer services that take print ads and transform them into interactive online ads. I'm quoted about the St. Petersburg Times' efforts in this arena. (April 8, 2002 in E&P Archives.)
  • Newspapers and Multimedia -- In this article about how newspapers are teaming up with television stations (or buying TV stations), I am quoted about the St. Petersburg Times' relationship with WTSP, TV 10.
  • St. Petersburg Times' Use of Video -- DigitalTelevision.com looks at Videoaxs, a company that feeds video to newspapers across the country, including the St. Petersburg Times.
  • HighSchoolJournalism.org -- Produced by the American Society of Newspaper Editors, this site is designed for high school journalism students and their instructors. In their "Ask A Pro" section, I am featured.
  • eBay Announcement -- The St. Petersburg Times became the first newspaper in the country to sign a contract with eBay to have the auction-style items placed in the classifieds of the St. Petersburg Times. This originally was my idea more than a year prior to the signing of the contract. Editor & Publisher wrote about the deal. (May 3, 2001 in E&P Archives.)
  • eBay Announcement, Part II -- Information Week, an Internet magazine, wrote a "news flash" about the eBay/St. Petersburg Times deal.
  • Editor & Publisher Cover Story -- To see this article, you have to go to the paid archives of Editor & Publisher's June 12, 2000 issue, which featured a lengthy story on my career in journalism. The 6-page article includes quotes from some of my former bosses, as well as a great shot of the St. Petersburg Times Internet team, who all got up at 5 a.m. for a sunrise shot on the roof of the newspaper building. If you want to read the article in the archives, search for "ronald dupont" and look for the June 12, 2000 story with the headline, "The Mice That Roared."
  • Syndicates Lack of Response to Web -- Columnist Dave Astor writes a column about my concerns that syndicates are still offering content in non-Internet format, making it tough or impossible for Websites to use. (Jan. 24, 2000 story in E&P archives.)
  • Big Story On Launch of TampaBay.Com -- When the St. Petersburg Times debuted TampaBay.Com, the magazine Editor & Publisher wrote a story on how the site is taking on the Tampa Tribune and CitySearch. (April 13, 1999 story in E&P archives.)
  • Story On My Goals At St. Pete Times -- Editor & Publisher talks about taking the community concept to Florida's largest newspaper, the St. Petersburg Times. (Dec. 7, 1998 story in E&P archives.)
  • Editorial on "Passion" -- The Newspaper Association of America's Melinda Gipson writes about newspapers having passion for what they do.
  • Column About E-Mail Services -- Editor & Publisher columnist Steve Outing takes a look at e-mail services that various newspapers offer. (July 27, 1998 story in E&P archives.)
  • Column About Mission Statements -- Editor & Publisher columnist Steve Outing writes a column about newspaper mission statements. (June 8, 1998 story in E&P archives.)
  • Story On Sunline's NAA Presentation -- A writer for Editor & Publisher was at the 1998 Annual NAA Convention and heard Sunline's group speech. A graph from his article about the presentation includes: "Despite the small size of its parent newspaper, the Sun Herald, Sunline has quietly won more national awards than most of the million-dollar newspaper Web sites that are household names." (June 21, 1998 story in E&P archives.)
  • My First Paper Remembers Me -- The Town-Crier, the first newspaper I worked for and got paid, remembers me in an article about its 17-year anniversary.
  • NAA Story On Online Competition -- This is a story highlighting ideas from the 1997 NAA convention. It talks about Sunline's effort to put the entire community online.
  • Column On Missing Links -- This is a column written by a reporter upset that newspapers don't always properly archive stories, particularly obituaries.
  • Editor & Publisher Column About Sunline -- This is the first major story written about Sunline. This was written just after Sunline had won its first Editor & Publisher EPpy Award. (Feb. 19, 1997 story in E&P archives.)
