ranked number-one by the Columbia Scholastic Presss Association (CSPA),
the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA), and the Quill & Scroll
Press Association (QSPA).

Won first place in the feature category of the Post's school newspaper
contest

Was a member of the four-man team that won the state journalism contest
for front-page news.

first by the QSPA and NSPA; was ranked above first place (into the "Medalist"
category) by the CSPA; was winner of the Post's and Ft. Lauderdale News/Sun-Sentinel's
school newspaper contests; and was one of only two high school newspapers
in the U.S. to win as many as four individual category national awards.
Won two individual cateogry national awards -- one in editorial writing
and one in feature writing in Quill & Scroll's Gold Key contest.
Won first place in editorial writing in FPL's state journalism contest.
Was again a member of a four-man team that won the state journalism contest.
Was named the top high school journalist in the South Florida tri-county
area by the Post for placing first in feature writing, third in sports
writing and honorable mention in column writign in the newspaper's contest.
Won scholarship to University of Florida's summer journalism program and
was named News Editor of program's newspaper.
Was given the Brown University Book Award for being the student who best
combined a "high degree of ability in English expression both written and
spoken."
